Plan an Egypt tour by choosing your main sights, counting usable travel days and checking the route, transport and inclusions together. Cairo and Giza, Luxor, Aswan and the Nile offer different experiences. A longer list of stops is only useful when there is enough time to enjoy them.

Choose the places you most want to understand

Start with your interests, then connect the places into a realistic route. Giza and Saqqara introduce the pyramids; Luxor brings temples and royal tombs into focus; Aswan and Abu Simbel add a different southern journey. Beach time on the Red Sea needs its own space in the itinerary.

Our first-time Egypt itinerary guide explains the classic Cairo, Luxor and Aswan route. For closer planning, compare time in Cairo and Giza, the main temples for a first Luxor visit and whether Abu Simbel fits your trip. Choose your priorities before adding more destinations.

Count sightseeing time, not just calendar days

Arrival, departure and intercity transfers can take time out of a holiday. Compare the nights in each place and the time available for visits, rather than choosing a tour by its headline duration alone.

Check where you sleep before an early start, whether a flight day also carries a full sightseeing programme, and where there is room to rest. Tell the planner about children, mobility requirements or a preference for shorter days before the route is agreed.

Decide how you want to experience the Nile

A cruise and a hotel-based Luxor and Aswan trip organise the journey differently. Compare sailing nights, land visits, transfer days and time in each city. A cruise itinerary does not automatically include every southern sight.

Our Nile cruise versus hotel-based trip comparison explains that choice. If sailing is central to your holiday, explore the Nile cruise collection; for a combined country itinerary, compare Egypt packages with a Nile cruise.

Compare what the written programme includes

Read the itinerary and inclusion list together. Two tours with similar names can cover different transport, accommodation and admissions.

  • Route and transport: check the pickup and finish points, each intercity journey, and whether domestic flights or other transfers are included.
  • Accommodation: compare the named hotels or proposed category, room arrangements and, for a cruise, the vessel and cabin details offered.
  • Sightseeing: distinguish a visit to a site from a separately ticketed interior, tomb or special experience.
  • Guiding: confirm the language and which visits have a guide. Private arrangements and shared services should be clear.
  • Meals and extras: check the meals listed each day and the exclusions, rather than assuming that every expense is covered.
  • Dates and price: compare offers for the same travel dates, party size and rooming. Confirm the final services and booking terms before paying.

Choose the right kind of tour for your visit

Compare Egypt travel packages when you want a multi-day route. If your accommodation and wider journey are already arranged, browse private day tours by pickup city. For a visit during a cruise-ship call, use port-specific shore excursions and share the ship’s schedule; hotel-pickup routes and port excursions are different products.

Check current entry and travel advice

Entry requirements depend on your passport and circumstances. Check the official Egyptian e-Visa information and the appropriate Egyptian embassy or consulate before travel. Do not assume that everyone is eligible for an e-Visa or a visa on arrival.

Review your own government’s current advice for the areas you plan to visit, including safety, entry and health preparation. UK travellers can consult FCDO Egypt travel advice and its entry requirements. That guidance is written for UK travellers; other passport holders should use the advice relevant to them. A general travel article cannot establish that every part of Egypt is suitable for every trip.

Send a useful enquiry

Share your travel dates or date range, arrival and departure points, number of travellers, room arrangements, main sights and preferred pace. Mention any fixed flights, booked hotels or cruise-ship call, along with requirements that could affect the route.

Start with the Egypt travel package collection to compare existing routes. If those routes do not fit, ask about a tailor-made Egypt journey. Egypt Story Tours is operated by Egypt Story Travel.

FAQs

How many days should I allow for an Egypt tour?

Work backwards from your main sights and usable sightseeing days. Check arrival times, departure times and transfers before adding cities. A Cairo-focused stay and a Cairo, Luxor and Aswan journey need different plans.

Are flights and all entrance tickets included in Egypt tours?

Check the specific programme. Domestic and international flights are different services, and a site visit does not necessarily include separately ticketed interiors or special experiences. Ask for any unclear inclusion to be confirmed before booking.

Do I need a visa to visit Egypt?

Requirements and eligibility depend on your passport and circumstances. Check the official Egyptian information and the relevant embassy or consulate for your trip. Do not assume that a visa on arrival is available to every traveller.

Is Egypt safe for my planned itinerary?

Safety advice is specific to the areas you plan to visit and can change over time. Read your own government’s current advice, then discuss the actual route and travel dates with your planner.
